Muscovy keepers share your pics!

lol ok I understand :) and my way may not work for waterfowl I was treating turkey's and chickens so and I used a bunch of dusts before I found one that worked

No, I hadn't clipped her wings yet, but she hadn't finished molting yet either, so I wouldn't have expected her to fly away. and yes there is a big hill behind us, and there is a creek down on the other side, and also, those people have Muscovy's too. If she has gone over there, I would definitely not be able to catch her, since there's tons of brush and woods by that creek.

I would head over and introduce myself...cant hurt to have other keepers in the area that are friends!

Anyone know how drakes are with a mama scovy hen with ducklings?
My friends hens would leave the flock and stay away from the drakes until babies were older.
I will just have a pair so I'm wondering if he'll try to kill them. Since there's only 2, I can't see him wanting to stay away.
I can pen her if she needs it when the time comes
MIne all run together and I dont usually have any problems with the drakes. The hens definitely know which babies are theirs though! They dont tolerate any "newcomers." Sometimes you will have problems with drakes trying to break up the nests to mate...maybe that is an interloper? I am not sure.
It is funny cause geese are so different. The males check on the females and then take any goslings and add them to "the pool." The female stays on the nest until she is sure there are no more to hatch and then joins the flock. All the geese watch over all of the goslings! It is very neat to watch!

That is so cute about the geese!! I think you're guilty of enabling here because I've never considered geese.
But that mental image is hard to resist!!
On the muscovies, when you say they break up a nest: do you mean they chase off the babies? Just curious

I posted some picks on the thread "do you love geese" that someone else posted on this thread....(just to help)

The drakes sometimes still want to mate even though the hen has decided to sit. THey go on in and bust up the nest(eggs) I have had this happen a fe times. If I know who the culprit(s) are I pen them up separate for a while and that usually soves it. If you have lots of extra females it usually isnt a problem though. (sorry guys, but most males are pigs!)

I am planning on pairing my chocolates and selling eggs/ducklings this spring. I think I will hatch the first ones to see how pure they are...they are starting to separate into groups already!
