Muscovy keepers share your pics!

An old picture of my first ducklings:
To me there is nothing more precious than a mama and her babies whether ducks, geese or chickens. I'm pretty partial to Muscovy's though.

adorable

I really want Muscovies again, but I have reached my twelve duck limit. I only have an acre and I figure if I want to garden around them twelve will do enough damage.
Yes those wide feet can do some damage and the rooting for bugs can till up a garden in no time. I keep my gardening to containers because of that.

Since I'm down to just five ducks, I really want to hatch a bunch next spring. Even if I have to let them free range in our barn, since I don't have any good place for a hen to sit in my chicken tractors.

Well I got the duck pen wrapped in netting to keep the ducklings inside and separated the baby area from the pond, but it got down past freezing last night and I think Houdini let her eggs freeze. They were Ice cold when I got in there to candle. I think I saw movement but It was probably wishful thinking, I think she let all the eggs die. We shall see come next weekend if nothing hatches then I will just take any future eggs away from her and incubate them. I had suck big plans for these, I can't find muscovy anywhere around here right now... I fenced her up in the baby area so maybe she will get back to being a momma duck. Not very hopeful.

So sorry, but to even have a Scovy even thinking about brooding this time of year to me is a miracle. Spring isn't far off now!! and maybe there is still hope with these eggs.

We were surprised too, but we live in AZ and She reached maturity right at the beginning of "winter" so she just went with it. I let her have the eggs since she seemed to want to do the thing.
