Handsome drake. Looove the dark ripple hen. I hope I got that right. I'd like to learn more about ripple and how it works. Only three colors of ripple right? Really neat pic.
When I gave her the eggs we had picked up last night, I was worried. My other muscovy who is absolutely demon spawn when she goes broody would have taken my fingers off. Chrissy however just chirped at me and let me put the eggs in with her. She's a very sweet broody. I'm hoping being in a pen alone without my laying hens harassing her, she will get back on the nest. My drake was also tackling her and humping her this morning. Poor thing. I put her on the nest, so she knows that her eggs are in there with her. She just has never been in a pen before. She's not happy about it.
The X she gave me during the ordeal this morning. I'm so mad at my chickens. Just angry. They are only trying to lay in this nest because Chrissy is sitting in it. She had 4 chicken eggs plus the duck eggs under her. They will go lay in every nest the ducks make that they can get to. Ugh.
Sigh, Look at that flawless skin, not a freckle in sight. Having a sweet broody helps so much. Candling, marking and during hatch, you'll find it so much easier to keep an eye on the clutch.

Yes, I'm bitter about freckles as only the truely freckle afflicted are.

Here is a size comparison from drake and hen...from left to right it goes, hen, hen, drake...see how much bigger he is then the girls and they were only a few weeks old then.
these are the same ones as my previous pics just when they were babies.

Question - if you have a ripple or barred hen, but the drake does not carry either of those gene patterns, will their offspring have barred or rippled patterns?

Correct. As babies they may have barring or rippling, then grow out of that. Mine did. They are only half barred. In often to get the barring and rippling well is by breeding with both parents having the gene
