New babies hatched today
I won't let the other one go broody, and the one that is I need to remove two eggs from her nest. She was off yesterday, but when she saw me went marching back onto her nest. They will all go broody, many times over the season, and can be sneaky about hiding them, as well as vicious when defending their eggs. I don't need to be overrun by muscovy ducks, did that once, 5 hens turned into 50 ducks, so I collect eggs daily. I usually carry a stick when doing it to push them off the nest, they are never happy about it.
I've been to scared to reach in lol. I tried putting a few more possibly frizzled Bantam eggs under my broody chicken last night and got pecked pretty hard! As soon as Saturn got up to eat I ran in and got two RIR eggs out from under her so she has nine total. Pretty sure she took a Peking and a mallard egg. Is that okay or should I pull them?
The eggs should be here today! I think I'm going to put them under Andromida. This will be her 3rd batch of babies and the previous owners told me she was a very good mom! Really would love a Cocoa, shes so pretty!
I think you meant @JudysMuscovy .Beautiful scovy baby @JanetMarie
I collect eggs daily, boy those scovy girls are sure persistent. I wish I could let them hatch when they wanted but I'd be over run with ducklings who grow super fast and would take over the world in population in no time.![]()
Breaks my heart to have to do it they are so cute when sitting.
Some do I have one that will latch on and you can actually pick her up as she is hanging on to my arm. I wear long sleeves now. Both of my girls are still giving the high pitched chirping nose bit so far, only Cocoa seems to have decided to go broody. She got her butt parked in her nice, padded nest box in the coop. I'm able to get eggs from her without more that a couple chirps and nibbles so far. Do they get more violent as time goes on?
Oops sorry. Yep those lils will give those scovy adults a run for their money soon.I think you meant @JudysMuscovy .
With all of the eggs being incubated and brooded here, soon the adults will be overrun with young ones!
