Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I'm not sure if i shared these pictures here yet or not but I'm going to. We have a battle going on, all over one nest box. Cocoa and Ebony have both worked on padding it up for themselves but my resident broody hen always uses this box to brood. Her last baby is 10-12 weeks old so she's ready to sit again.

Ana and Cocoa last week

Cocoa has since moved on but Ebony tried to take over. There was quite the fight between Ebony and Ana over the box the other day. Both girls came tumbling out and here was the aftermath:

Ana claimed the cushy duck nest for herself and Ebony was stuck wandering around outside. But, tonight, when i closed up the coops, both girls were in the box together again so well see what happens. I will NOT be giving them any real eggs lol
Isn't it funny how there can be other nest boxes BUT there is only 1 Nest box. Looks like someone is very serious by the looks of all that fluff in the nest.

Yesterday I couldn't figure out why one of my hens was still up on the roost when every one else was outside and when I went in I found out my Muscovy female Hope was in the cubby right where my hen had to walk by and she was being Miss Grumpy because she had an egg in there. Poor Mary Anna was scared to go by her.

Ebony is very pretty. Ana too.

Thank you :)

I think Ebony is trying to be serious about brooding but just can't compete with Ana. This is Ebony's first attempt at being broody. Ana is experienced and VERY serious about it when it comes to it lol. I guess I'm not surprised she commundeared the nest this time. She may not be able to pull it off again though lol

Did people give you a hard time when they saw what you were doing? I once rescued a goose with an injured leg (sent it to one of those wildlife sanctuaries) but I was chasing after it while heavily pregnant, and I'm also Asian so I had some people come up to me to ask what I was doing. I think they thought I had a strange craving or something.

Hahaha, that just made me laugh so hard my 4 yr old had to come see what was funny. My step mom is Thai and makes jokes about eating everything. I could see why people might think you were hunting down some lunch lol.

LOL I know, I realized it 's what it looked like after the fact and was like, oooohhhh no wonder everyone looked worried.

All three broodies are still doing great. I think Saturn and I will be getting along better after this. Shes young and skiddish but seems to be getting better with me being close to her in coop. Is it normal for broody girls to start looking rough? Andromida my brown pied looks really faded. Neptune is such a good boy. He's been spending most of his time moving from one girl to the next and always says hi when they come out to eat. And he's been hanging out in creek with my young drake Mercury.

Have you candled any of the eggs I sent you yet? I'm just curious if they're developing lol. I did find Cocoa's new nest...in the turkey pen behind some plywood lol

Best time is at night when everyone's tucked in. Just steal one and shine a flashlight through to see if you have any veining going on. Then tuck it back under where it was.

Okay. I'll give it a shot tomorrow night. I put 4 of yours under Saturn in my coop. That'll be the easiest to check. So excited!
