Muscovy keepers share your pics!

How do you take their eggs once they decide they want to set? I tried that, taking one away after Coco had gotten 4 or 5 in the nest ("she'll never notice," I thought). She immediately went into hiding under the barn and a month later--presto!--she had 16 babies!
Mine will only set under cover. I know all their places, and I check under all cover. Mine apparently aren't as determined as all nest are made in the shed thankfully. I did have a sneaky one that was nesting inside a hollow stump. I had to watch her for a few days to find her. I generally count my hens weekly to make sure I'm not missing one. If I am I go looking until I find them.

My 6 yr old scovy drake had 7 females before and he was very partial to just a few so some of the girls didn't get bred often. He is getting pretty lazy now so 4 is about all he can handle matter of fact I have Runners and Buffs females he doesn't even give them a second look. LOL

The last year of my last drake life he refused to breed, he was around 12. The hens would chase him around trying to get him to do it but he just refused. Muscovy drakes seem more lazy than other duck types, and seem to do better with competition to get the job done.

Good info!

Thanks both of you.

My one adult duck Anna reached a milestone yesterday. For the first time, she dared to touch me. I got her a year ago at 5 months old, from someone who hadn't tamed her. She was friendly but skittish and untouchable. I put the three super tame teenagers I reared this year in with her some weeks ago and her demeanor has changed, she's become much calmer and curious when I've sat down to pet the teens. Until yesterday she actually dared a quick nibble on my boot.

As I understand it, skittish adult ducks don't usually turn tame, so I'm very proud of her!

Andromida has internal pips! I am going to remind myself over and over that they take forever to hatch. She's the girl that tried for like 12 weeks on 3 different sets of eggs I got her but never had any luck. So I'm pretty excited. I'll have to get a pic of her set up. She is in goat pen lol

She's so pretty! Crossing fingers that 3 times's the charm, and that she finally get to be a mother.

Not as of last night just somemore internal pips. I only had a few min down there this morning but she got off to come say hi and to get hand fed because she's special lol. So I'm not sure. Going to be home soon to check!
