I need a second opinion on my two growing Muscovy brats! I was hoping that at least the darker one was a duck, but I have at least 1 outside view that they may both be drakes. Both are almost fully feathered. Both feathered at the same rate and both are about 70% the size of my adult Rouen (“utility” type, average sized duck). The darker Muscovy peeps or trills constantly. The white one peeps less. No hissing yet. I have no other Muscovies to compare them to, but My husband, who got them as emergency companions after Daphne was left alone after her buddy died, said that they were the two smallest ducklings.

I desperately want at least the darker one to be a duck as we can’t possibly add enough ducks to keep two drakes happy and would then likely have to give the babes away. But I like them, and so does Daphne, although that took a while. Call me a softy, but I don’t want them to get eaten :(

I will try and get better pictures of their feet/legs.

I honestly think both are drakes beautiful drakes. My Muscovy drake Is not over zealous with his breeding and 2 drakes would not get in the pool together to over mate a female or mine never have. Could you get 5 more females so the boys would have 3 girls apiece ? Muscovy’s are fine with 3 each. Oh and I don’t eat my boys either and no ducklings as long as to pick up eggs every day.

Well, darn! 5 extra ducks wouldn’t be so bad in the warmer months, but winter care is another story. I feel like a total of 5 would be our max. I’ll talk to my husband. He picked these two! The county fair is in two weeks. Maybe I can find a source for more ducks or maybe someone who would appreciate an extra drake (yeah, I know, no one needs extra drakes ). I am fond of these two, although if I had to pick one to keep, I would pick the darker one. How much time do you think I have before I have a problem? The white one has been grooming Daphne a bit...
