did you catch it in a trap?It turned out to be a possum.
I have never heard of a drake building a nest and incubating eggs, maternal instincts are just not in their system.
If you gave one a good shot of estrogene he might show female behaviour, though... How old is the bird in question? Can you post a picture of him?
Hmmm what do you call a drake that does that?
An interior duckerator!!!!!!!!![]()
Yea and it got a shovel treatment.did you catch it in a trap?
LMAO!!! Is funny but still no answers on the drake building and sitting on an empty nest! And hens doing the drakes work with one another! I am dumbfounded!Hmmm what do you call a drake that does that?

I'd say he needs some counseling, he's confusedLMAO!!! Is funny but still no answers on the drake building and sitting on an empty nest! And hens doing the drakes work with one another! I am dumbfounded!![]()
Midlife crisis? Maybe! Perhaps he has taken on the roll of the 4th hen! I don't mind the fun with it,we have our own with it! No he has never had offspring and yes he has had a mate! Veteranarian suggested we keep him away, especially from the one with the prolapsed uterus until she was better! We isolated her and he stayed with the other 2,he has been a mate to the one he came with,he just decided to stray,I guess! LOL As of right now he is back with all 3 hens but seems to be back with his mate(the only one that will sit on a nest)! We have always taken the eggs out as we use them, maybe if I left some in there, they would sit on them. Don't know til I try right? Do I want little ones, yes, does hubby,NO!!!!! Maybe it will be the answer, who knows! In the meantime perhaps I shall try counseling Rocket(drake)!!! lmao!!Don't ask ....... don't tell.
Midlife crisis?
With the females - maybe a dominance thing.
Has the male had a mate, had offspring before?
Animals run a lot on instinct. We try to attribute our motives and "humanize" them.
Maybe he's lonely? Trying to attract a mate? Having hormones out of whack.
Could just be old enough he dosen't want to camp on the ground anymore and it's his version of a duck RV?
This is the right site to ask, don't mind some of us having fun with it. Obviously in "our" collective experience it's not a common thing. Hope someone will eventually be able to answer your question - but in the meantime, enjoy the puzzle and curiousity and wonderment your birds enhance your life with.
