Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Okydoke, I can do that.

He'd all ready molted out of the baby light brown tracings on his back end here this summer as adolecent

Here again this fall as a teen he's developed light blue tail and light tan mottling on chest

Sunlight effect on the first pic but these taken today as young adult.
Very pretty, wonder if that is called Blue fawn?

Lilac IS blue-fawn - same thing. Only question I have is if with as much variance in lightness there is in these two of the lighter guy would still be considered lilac/bf or another color?

Lilac/blue-fawn with the allmost white in earlier post.
This later guy looked all blue as a youngster!

This is another site member's blue-fawn/lilac picture (sorry can't credit who - forgive me!)

I wish i knew more about the colors, just never was that interested, ian from Australia would be a good one to discuss this with, but it being spring there almost summer I haven't seen him on in a while but you could PM him, I believe he shows his Scovies. Don't get me wrong I love all the colors they come in and would love to have one in each color just haven't gotten into the research of it all. Forgot to say your birds are lovely. Are you breeding for sale or food or both? if you don't mind me asking

I'm thinking my light boy might be what is called silver.

A book by Holderread is supposed to have the definative wazzup on all things scovy. It's on my Christmas list...
Whats hard is finding good picture representation of just what a color looks like even if on paper you know what the genetic notation is! Add in that people call things by "nick-names" that conflict with "official" color definitions ... No expertise here yet by any means but I get a bit OCD on research until I do understand something that interests me. There really are some folks who know thier poo on here - thank goodness they're patient and willing to share!

I started a thread trying to find out about an elusive reference to calico scovs.

On the bottom of this page is some reference to how the genes work and what they appear as
http://sellers.kippenjungle.nl/page6.html

If you copy and paste this it's a color cross calculator you can play with

But in answer to your question, I'm just getting started myself. 24 birds from 3 different sources for my foundation - heavy on chocolates. Plan on culls hitting the freezer, mine or others, as well as eggs ( do have a market here) and there will be ducklings to sell as well. They can get VERY prolific.

Just love the colors! When do they normally begin to breed? Mine are at 7 months. My drake hasn't shown any signs as yet of having interest in anything but fooooood!

They are all inseparable, i have noticed when they are in the pond, he is wing and feather grabbing at the 3 girls. They just dive or swim away. Is that a sign he is getting interested? Forgive my ignorance, these are my first scovies.

yep. mine take a break from mating from early Oct. till usually late March . when daylight begins to get longer you'll start to notice changes in behavior

Mine are still going at it. A few are last year's adults brought in recently - no eggs, but a whole lotta shakin going on....
Thinking maybe late Feb? start laying again. Seasonal thing, expect them to lay the season after the year they are hatched.
Understand they can hatch out 4 broods in a season, often community nests, sometimes as many as 20+ eggs at a go! If they don't brood they can lay a whole bunch of eggs. Think I saw something like 80 a year possible?
Guess the luv-in is recreational right now......

My drake who is now 8 months he's our youngest drake is very interested in the girls but since early Oct. hasn't even tried to mate with them, Scovies are such gentlemen during off season, but boy watch out when spring gets here, it;'s every man for himself. My geese aren't showing any signs of mating yet either. No goose eggs yet.
