can broody duck moms move there eggs them self? she was brooding for about a week in a dog box, well i went out this weekend and her and all the eggs are gone. her due feathers are everywere also. Im not sure if she moved them (if she can) or if something got her.
Sounds like something got her, so sorry.

ducks sitting on eggs as just that sitting ducks, they need to be protected especially at night, and even during the day they are so zoned out anything can get them and their eggs. They can move them but they really can't go far. it's more rolling them from one place to another.

love to see them!

My 5 new babies (fingers crossed they are all females!!!)
I chose the 5 smallest with the most feminine looking heads...

You can't really tell in this picture but there are 4 different shades of brown going on, super light tan to a dark brown :) So excited to see what color they end up being!!

You lost another one? that's sad. so sorry. please try to find a few more ducks so your last females won't be over bred by your drakes.

I ran into a gent yesterday at the farm store nearby who said he thought he had a scovie sitting a nest in one of his goat sheds. He figures there's about 18 eggs under her. There were 2 hens laying there at first and then this one went on broody lockdown. He says I can have the chicks if I want them! I went to look at the mama and she is gorgeous, too! He thinks these ducks came from a neighbor who got in trouble for having too many. I'm hoping that the eggs are fertile vs. futile, lol. I may ask him if I can have or buy mama from him as well . . .

Snapped a shot of my "babies" yesterday, their 10 wks today & tomorrow, some of the boys were trying to hiss last night... aw.... kinda sad they are gonna have to go soon. We're keeping the duck, she's officially, named "Julie"

They sure are pretty GQ it's awfully hard for me to part with them too, then this morning 2 of the drakes got into it which makes it a lil easier once they get to fighting age. But still hard.
