Here´s the new mum, totally protective, a good mum.
I just love this baby´s little black head. The only one like it out of the 13.
One of the 8 barred.
One of the ducks with 3 ducklings has already lost one of her ducklings 4 times! ...to another duck. The other duck may or may not view it as her own, so I´ll have to keep an eye on her...when she gets back... she´s gone off with 4 of them to the reeds.

Their gorgeous livin, I love that lil one with the blk head to look forward to seeing how it turns out. and that lil yellow one[barred] has to be a girl just look at that face.

Yep, pretty sur4 it´s a girl, she has a more rounded tail-end.
The duck that went walk-abouts took one of the other duck´s ducklings along with her! She´s been gone most of the day. I was getting a bit worried, and I´ve just seen her bringing back her 3 and the other one across our neighbour´s water meadow. Wretched duck, but she´s kept them safe, including one that she didn´t even hatch out! She´s an experienced duck, is a good mom. It´ll be interesting to see if this little one tags on with its mum again or whether it stays with its adopted family.

It may like the smaller family dynamics.

The true mother that laid the eggs has 4. The duck she´s attached herself to now has 4, including this little one. The duck that hatched her now has 2, although for a short while she´d even lost another one! the first-time mom is doing a great job, keeping herself to herself and ducklings tucked away, she has 3.
I think this duckling really attached herself to the other ducklings, rather than the hen, so as long as she sticks with the other ducklings for a bit, she´ll be ok. Hopefully. I´d just rather the duck didn´t have this huge desire to go wandering off with the little things.
I went down to the marsh this evening, and the ducks are all sat around with little fluffy butts tucked under them, but I can´t see how many exactly, so I don´t know which hen she´s with tonight. At least there´s no lost duckling crying down there.

They can sure keep us hopping can't they. I keep mine mama's and ducklings penned up to keep them from wandering to far when tiny. Too nerve wracking.
