Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I wait until time for bed so they don't go and wash this expensive stuff right off. but yep just right in the eyes my hen had bubbles for a couple days and after spraying a couple times they were gone, when my gander cut his bill I sprayed him down face and eyes and all at bedtime. healed right up. I even used it on one of my eyes probably got an irritation from cleaning out their houses.
Thanks!!! I will try that tonight!! He will probably hide from me for a few days after the indignity (he hid in the nest box with his wife and kids last night), but I love the stuff - it works for so many different things!

He is so sweet. but why artificial insemination?

Well I love ducks a lot, I invested a lot in them as well as a very expensive incubator which I built capable of hatching 500 eggs. I prefer artificial insemination so I can time all the ducks laying hence maximise the incubator capacity. Here in the Caribbean ducks lay and hatch all year, so it is also a handsome income for myself. Of course I will allow them to mate and lay naturally however there are the stubborn hens that will have to be inseminated to get them in timing with the others. Once all are in proper timing and drakes mating properly I will not do it.

Let me add artificial insemination can only be done if the ducks are tame and very comfortable with the person handling them. In chickens its way much easier. As soon as the ducks are not comfortable AI is almost impossible and if continued, it could hurt them. So I'm keeping my fingers cross, if he allows me fine but if not I'll have to leave them to be natural, and have a bigger flock.

By artificial insemination you mean sperm extraction then 'inseminating' it into the females oviduct, or do you mean breeding them just separately from others?

U r correct I am referring to extracting sperm from the drake and insemination to the duck. I just use AI as a general term.

How fun. I just teasing I bet that works great.

So the adoption didn't end up working out so I am going to look at other rescues but I did advise them to checkout our site because I know there is a lot of adopters on BYC that love Muscovies & they just got another drake so they can't give up their girls until a male is taken so that really doesn't work for me because I can't take any drakes :/ but I really hope they get homes! :fl
