Muscovy keepers share your pics!

He was all bloody. Very pecked around the head, and beak. He's scabbed over today. He's eating and drinking well. And going potty.
So scenario, if I get him well.. Try to reintroduce in a couple weeks maybe or will they ever take him in?

Poor baby. Honestly, i'd take another baby and keep company with him... i cannot explain why this happening but if it's drawing blood it's most definitely time to step in. The hard part is no one can say for sure the cause but i do know i let my mothers and clutches run with the main flock and this is not typical behavior and one i would again, as you have done step in to cease it immediately.

SHe can kill it and/or have serious injury with long term effects. she'll wean them so you can try reintroducing later but do so with caution. Best of luck.

they're establishing a pecking order, he should be fine if he submits, but to help them stop pecking i would recommend putting cornstarch on him or baby powder, they dont like the texture and there for won't peck and bite at him

At this age, no way will it take this route as a matter of fact often it doesn't even draw blood when the adults get into it. Babies do argue and mothers will peck mildly at young but blood drawn is not something that should occurring.

Here is an update pic of some of the big clutch of 19.. oye... may i say how insane that is?! lol feels like thousands of eyes starring at you...

It's quite the mixed bag.. chocolates, blues.. i even have a black female in it.. their now over 2mths... then i have another two clutches.. so i have had 28 Muscovy hatched here with only 3 mothers. I still have one more to go.. maybe, she's in the hay barn... insane. to think i was not breeding this year.

Oh, plus i ended up with some Buff and Muscovy crosses. So add 10 more ducklings to that for a total of 38 ducks and Plus 1 since i did get 1 call baby.. did i mention i was NOT breeding this year.

Pretty! Sounds like a successful year for not breeding

Friends, I am at a loss. After almost 2 months the mother duck has been pecking at one duckling. The other 6 duckling join in. I found her bloody about the head and I removed her.

I've isolated the pecked duckling and she cries for her brood. She seems better today so we released the ducklings from the day pen and allowed the hurt duckling to interact. She followed them around, then all of a sudden the momma started pecking her and they all started mocking her. I immediately scooped her back up. I just don't understand this.

Mine free range. I only penned them up because I feared the ducklings would get taken by turtles or worse since we live surrounded by a creek. Our other female brown Scovey brought four ducks back, just brand new hatched. So we penned those up with her.

I'm a nervous wreck now because I've never had any act in such a way. I can't quite distinguish males or females just yet from the first clutch born.

Here's the brand new ones.

Is the baby larger than the rest? My duck would have gladly accepted the ducklings I hatched last week but I tried this week and now they are noticeably larger. Where she was pecking them was swollen. So I removed them. I would suggest putting one or two of the other ducklings with him. They may be upset for a day or two but they will be okay as long as they have friends.

I've never heard of that situation before. My only explanation is that perhaps the mother senses some
deformity or something wrong that you can't see. Will any of the other ducks accept it? Will the other ducklings accept it if the mom isn't around (if you put all the ducklings together without the mom)? Does the duckling have any outward differences from the rest?
