would love ducklings from my muskies next year, but I doubt i'll have to wait, can't get my hands on eggs this late in the year to hatch my own, and we are such a small island not may folk keep them, and those who do are presious about their female birds. boys you can get easy enough no matter what species. I have got some feelers out looking for a few girls though. these boys (as this is what most folk think they are) were born/hatched locally in august so are young boys yet, and still just settling in. what would the best thing to give them as a treat? chookies quail guinea and turkers go mad for meal worms, they would sell their soul for them. can muskies eat them? I feel bad when everyone else if getting nice stuff and their not x

My Scovy's love Meal worms and whole corn as a treat and I also give them some good quality dog kibble too I mix it all up in a bowl and toss on the ground, it's a free for all.

Be careful they love to fly and I'd hate for them to take off and not return..

   Welcome to BYC and very sorry to hear about your drake being taken, duck is high on the menu of most predators so I hope you have a secure area for your lone female and your ducklings when you put them with her.  If the weather is warm in your part of the world begin to introduce your 3 month old to your ducklings through fencing this way when the ducklings are old enough to go in with her they will have already gotten use to each other. Just remember we have to keep them safe.

Thanks lydia..will post some pic later..still feel sad due to my drake lost.. btw my solid white ducklings is about 3 week old..bought it from the local at my village..my drake is being snatched from its fence..i do some inspection and i found some tiny hole..and also his body..the predator maybe dug some hole and bite my drake leg and drag it out through the opening that the predator make..i think it water lizard..its very commom predator that like to eat chicken and duck here in Malaysia.

Well at least you know it wasn't a human pred. still very sorry those lizards do get big in other parts of the world thankfully not in my part, here the ducks eat them.. If you happen to have a mirror that doesn't have sharp edges or is non breakable you could try hanging it inside her house so she can at least see another duck till your babies can be introduced they do like to look at themselves.

We see this type of predation with raccoons here they will reach inside and grab hold of a duck or chicken and try to pull it through the fence killing the bird in the process. So many animals like to eat duck, we're always having to stay ahead of them..

oh good i'll let them have some meal worms next dish out, and there is always dog kibble the hens likeit too for some reason, I have a "bird bucket" that scraps and leftovers goes into and one time the kids emptied the dog biscuits swept of the floor around the dog dishes with out me knowing lol. so they got it. and actually loved it. it seems to be quite a controversial thing amoung the folk I've talked too. but I wondered about trimming a wing we have 6foot fencing around the bird area, but that will be no trouble for a duck the turkeys can jump it lol, they are in a enclosed run at the mo until they get used to this being their home. thanks soo much to everyone for all the kind advise it has been so super helpful x

I have a mountain river down below me and don't take a chance of one of mine taking off and flying down to, it it moves pretty fast and I'm afraid I wouldn't get them back so I clip one wing after each yearly molt. it keeps them safe at home and gives me peace of mind. If you need a diagram I have a good one to go by.

@kenji92 Your Muscovy's are very pretty I like the blk cap on your older female and the blue eyes on the solid whites is just stunning.. You have nice birds, try letting your older female at least see the babies so she starts getting use to them.. Thanks for sharing pics.
