How bad would it be to breed siblings for one generation?

It's not ideal even when it comes to line breeding but it has been done plenty of times. Half Sisters should be fine. Full sisters will most likely be fine but your working with less genetic diversity so issues would be more likely to arise in that pairing than if it was an unrelated pair or parent/offspring pairing.

I don't know if they are half or full as I bought them from someone with two clutches. But I have completely unrelated birds to outcross them with. I just wanted to do it one generation.

I know the Opaline Lovebird was bred this way as it was a rare sex linked mutation. They bred siblings and then outcrossed them and then bred them back to cousins to make sure they had the mutation.

I only planned on linebreeding for one generation to get the barred lilacs. I have been told that the more the parents were related the worse it is to cross siblings. This was by an Ameraucana judge. But if it is only done occasionally that no ill effects should come of it.

I just want to hear many opinions before doing it, if I do. I don't take having babies with issues lightly. I have had to put mutated babies down before that I hatched out of eggs I bought. I would rather avoid having to do it.

Got my second egg this morning. When can I start letting her make the clutch. I was going to let her lay a dozen or two and then stop collecting, but she just lays them on the coop floor. How do I get her to lay in a nesting box?

Im taking them cause that's her second egg and they're still really small I want her to lay a couple until she lays them bigger but, I'll let her nest in a week.

Give her a week them start leaving them. Mark them as she lays so if she lays a large clutch and you don't wan that many ducklings you can take out the oldest eggs she won't mind a bit once she is in full broody mode. I put the dates on mine. They won't start to grow right away. I have to do this with my Scovy's or they would brood 15-20 each.

Lol I wouldn't mine 15-20 ducklings lol, but that's what I always do with my breeders.

My black hen is in full laying now. Both drakes are breeding her a lot and she had about 12 eggs in her nest when she gave up on that nest and started a new one. So far 3 eggs in her new nest. Is this a common occurrence?

Also she goes into the pen to eat and breed but nests away from the pen. So she isn't being over-bred. Plus there are 6 other hens my 2 drakes are chasing. Just so you know she is not being tortured by my boys. When she goes back in, she is very willing with my boys and they somehow get the job done even with my geese torturing them as the copulate.

Also any tips on introducing very large ducklings? I tried before when they were smaller and the adults were bullying them. So I put them in with my Bantam ducks but now they are getting pretty big.

ALSO! Lol, any tips on using my lavender birds for new colors? I have chocolates, blues, blacks, and a white. My ducklings are a barred chocolate hen and barred hen with their brother a chocolate. I plan on putting my new chocolate split barred with my two (unrelated) blue hens once he gets old enough to produce lilacs. As the hens are unrelated, I wanted to possibly cross their babies and try to bring out some barring. Unfortunately, as he is split to barred, only 50% of his offspring will be split.
