Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Can the Muscovy and Pekin produce offspring? That would be a cool mix but I do not think I have ever seen one.

Linda
Yes. Their offspring will be sterile though.

Let all of our new girls out. Most of them found the creek! They all look like they're having fun!

A Saturn and Jupiter are still holding out and hanging in pen. Saturn spent a night outside down the creek when we first got her so I thought she'd fly back there but so far she's not interested.
She knows it's safer at home, lol. Glad they are all doing so well.

Pretty sure I got 4 Muscovy eggs today! First ones. I've been getting eggs from my KC for about 2 weeks but she laid hers in a different spot. Yay!

Nice! Sounds like you're flush with duck eggs...a wonderful situation.

The girls have been starting to lay pretty regularly now, and I have 2 dozen eggs I could put in the incubator right now. With my luck, though, I'll start incubating the eggs and then a few of the ducks will go broody and soon after, I'll be overrun with ducklings!

Still trying to decide what to do when that happens! I think I have 7 girls right now (maybe 6 the lavender is getting really big and has thicker wider spread legs) and I have 10 babies already ordered. I also have 4 people that want to buy duck eggs from me. Also there's a couple girls that Neptune never really pays attention to including my very pretty blue one. Will they still go broody?

Going broody has nothing to do with the drake. It's just part of being a Muscovy.

Lol sorry I was having lunch with hubby and didn't word that right. If the eggs aren't fertile I'm not sure what to do if she goes broody. Let her sit on them or use some of the ideas I've read on here to get her off and out of it.

You could also give her fertile for un fertile. I have tried many times to break a broody Muscovy and I cannot do it.

I have to agree - not sure it can be done. Mine are broody until they decide they're not anymore...and that can mean weeks of sitting on chicken eggs (removed daily) and duck "viciousness" when you try to take those eggs!

They can be nasty lol

I can slip eggs in an out with minor bruises lol as long as they still have eggs to sit on. It's if I try to remove one completely from the nest That is where serious injury can occur. [JK]

Oh wow okay. I was reading a couple of threads on here about getting them off the nest and taking the eggs and smoothing it out to break it. Thanks! Hopefully I can make it through the broody times without bruises lol.
