I have this magpie-project going on, and got a few good candidates from the last batch of the year. They're all related, so next year I'll go magpie-hunting and hopefully find a good flock to buy eggs from.

My end-goal is to get light blue ones, and I got one imperfectly patterned drake with a lovely color.

And 2 black ones with nice patterning; white rim around the tail and black only on top. They're canizie, probably homozygotus, so they'll lose their black cap.
(never mind the yellow spots, it's food. They're such pigs when they eat. Haha!)

The drake, with the blue drake next to him.

I have successfully hatched Muscovy Ducklings in a Little Giant's incubator without a egg turner! I bought the eggs from a friend 3 hours away. The eggs survived the trip home and my old Little Giant Still Air Incubator did it's job perfectly!
First Batch was 15 eggs, 8 ducklings hatched but only 5 survived till the next day. 1 of the 5 ducklings some how got it's foot caught between the wall of the brooder and it's food bowl. It was stuck for maybe 15 minutes and died? Their was nothing wrong with the duckling. So I had 4 ducklings left and are alive today! 2 are Chocolates, 1 is a Chocolate Pied, and 1 is a Blue.
The second batch was also 15 eggs, 10 ducklings hatched but 1 died . The 9 that hatched are healthy and alive! Out of the 9 ducklings, I have 2 White, 2 Blue, 2 Chocolate, 1 Chocolate Pied, 1 Lilac Pied, 1 Black Pied. I'm excited to find out their genders. I plan to buy drakes from other farms to add new bloodlines!
I moved last year in May and had to sell all my wonderful Muscovy's. It's been an entire year plus some months that I went without owning Muscovy's. I bought 12 Juvenile Muscovy's last month from various farms to start up with several Bloodlines. Sadly we had a fox attack which killed all 12 of my juveniles. So I had to start over again. It was a struggle emotionally and physically. I debated never getting Muscovy's again due to the poor deaths my juveniles went through. But I have since updated my new duck run with a roof and wired skirts around with electric fencing. My dogs now have access to outside 24/7 through doggie door.
