My oldest duck (who is 8) hardly ever lays but wants to be broody all of the time. The younger ones lay very well until their 5-6 year and then they will slow down.

Hi >I know this is a post where i should post pics but i don´t have any of our old muscovy. Where i live we can only buy baby ducks and the shop has no idea what breed they are,
it a bit of a pic n mix.
I have just bought 5 new ducklings there and have noticed that they looking like they will turn into muscovies, My question is however is how do you know what sex they are. with other breeds of ducks its easy. Does anyone here have any tips for me on this. thanks.

Everyones pics. are so great! I should be have some muscovy ducklings soon, somewhere around May 11. Got 2 duck hens sittin on 17 of their eggs. I cant wait to see how many hatch

elmacri, can you post a pic or so of your ducklings? How old are they?
With Scovy, you will notice btwn 3-5 wks old that the boys will beginning to outgrow the girls. Boys will have larger feet, longer body lines and start growing their caruncles sooner. The boys go though a "voice change" & will begin hissing instead of peeping once they start reaching maturity while the girls will continue to coo & peep.

OMG, those little ones are just too cute srsmith69 how many eggs was she sitting on in total?

She had 21 eggs. 19 hatched. Muscovy are great broodies.
