I think I stated what I was trying to say incorrectly. What I meant to say was that she has been sitting on the nest for well over 2 months but now there's only one egg and she still sitting on it. I wanted to know if I could grab the egg and get rid of it if I see that she's left the nest momentarily or if I should just leave her alone? I just don't understand why she would sit on an egg if it's no good. Wouldn't she realize that it's a goner at this point? She's being a good mother and all but I feel bad for her. Maybe she's a new mother?Welcome to BackYard Chickens, And a Big Hello from Eastern Nebraska! I don't think the Egg would be good, I would let Nature take It's course. You say She's been gone for 2 Month's, She most likely found a safer place to Nest.
Thank you. I feel that I should do that but at the same time I would feel bad for the mother that somebody stole her egg. Previous to laying her eggs she had been coming around our house with all the other ducks for a very long time. I've gotten to know them all and I would just feel bad that I'm "stealing" her egg. Will she get mad at me? I know that she trusts me because I have been able to get within inches of her to change out the water in her water bowl every few days.. She never moves an inch and just lets me do my thing. I know that's a silly thing to think but I know that animals probably have feelings too.Hello, and welcome to BYC. If it's been two months, the egg is not viable - toss it.
