Yesterday I noticed that one of my Muscovy drakes is missing an eye. It doesn't seem to be bothering him except having to turn to see out of his other eye. I've cleaned area multiple times with a saline solution. No signs of infection. I have no idea what happened. He is with 4 females and everyone gets along.

Aww Bless, I have a Muscovy female blind in one eye from a hawk attack and a female Runner blind in one eye no idea on that one but they have both adjusted really well. As long as there isn't any infection he will adjust well I am sure. I have to speak to both my girls before walking up to them if the are facing me with their blind eye.

I have 2 males and 8 females which are together once mating season is over until the next spring. There has always been some squabbling between the males, and I alternate which one is in duck jail until things settle. I don't think I will be able to do that this year because he will be at such a disadvantage. He and his girls will stay in their summer coop and run instead.

I would check all over your mesh/wire for any small pieces of metal that are poking out. I brushed up against the hardware cloth in my old run and didn’t think anything of it until 10 minutes later I felt blood dripping down my arm. There was a decent 1/2” chunk of flesh just gone. I went back to where I brushed against the hardware cloth and sure enough there was a small piece sticking out where the welding came undone…with some skin on it. That was 4 years ago and I still have 1/2” scar there.

I can't explain how but this Muscovy has 2 good eyes again. It was 2 months ago when I thought he had somehow lost one although there was no sign of injury or infection. Could the lid somehow have been stuck shut over the eye? He has water he dunks his full head in every day. He was getting a little annoyed with me making him turn his head from side to side to confirm there was an eye on each side. lol

If he has two good eyes now maybe the lid was closed over the eye becasue I have never heard of one growing new one. That is good news for sure.

If there is enough swelling it will look like a missing eye. I’ve seen it with Tom cats that get into fights. The last one that I treated with terramycin I was almost positive he lost his eye. It was bad, but with the way the lid had swollen under it covered his eye. He made a full recovery and you would never of know he had an eye injury.
