so my question is..... why don't they have crauncles yet?? sorry if it's spelled wrong

i am a horrible speller. does it have to do with them living inside? is it too early?? (i don't think so, but i am no expert) people in the past have said that they are pure scovy, so what's up with my duckies???

Some do just have more than others. Yours do show a bit of redness and caruncling around the bill. Maybe thats all they will ever have - or it may continue to grow slowly for a while longer.
Maybe it does have something to do with living in your room- but more likely it has to do with breeding and how much the parents had.

i hope they don't get much. if they don't, i got lucky. as you know i am not a fan. it's bugging me though. i feel like i have fake scovies hahaha. maybe that's why duckie is so mad all the time. lol

Lovesduckies, five months old is considerably younger than mine lay, usually around the eight month mark. But this could be in part related to season, size, strain etc.

As for the caruncling. Age has quite a bit to do with this & if your birds are only five months old this may be part reason. I have read that some strains here in Aus don't develop much caruncling until seven months or older, so strain related trait development could also play a role. But in your situation, one important factor may be sunlight? I have read also that more sunlight equals more caruncling (different to the way the combs on chickens respont light/no light). I believe that there is some substance behind this train of thought in that here in QLD were we get more daylight hours than the southern states, we often breed birds with much more caruncling, (but not always).

Regards

thanks rollyard. we are in spring now, as of saturday (your sunday).

okay. i was hoping i didn't get a mixed breed! i want ducklings lol. i've seen people who have scovies that are younger than mine with crauncling. i was getting worried. they show some, but not much. they never go outside. i took them out once and they wanted back in (spoiled brats!) so we made them stay out awhile longer, then took them back in. no one even looked for bugs! now i can't really take them out since they are flying and i don't want to be scratched to death when i try to clips wings. we are looking for a new house to live in and they will have an outside pen when we move (

) i not not looking forward to that. i like them with me, but i gotta do what i gotta do. untill then, they are in with me, enjoying the inside life catching flies and having their own bahroom!
