Muscovy, the underground black market duck.. a rant

With 5 new muscovy ducklings, I guess i have gone rebel too. Normal for me. If I had known this though, I would have bought all 15, not just 5.

I agree, I think it may be prudent especially with whats going on in New Zeland for us to "collect" the Muscovy.

Well I have about 80 Muscovy's here on my property. Many different bloodlines from all over the country. I love this feathered dinosaurs so much so that I've sold the majority of my other ducks to concentrate on my Scovys!

Im actually exosted my company left this AM and I have been ready to go back to bed since then.. so.. I did get some of that messed up. They were domesticated in South American over 10,000 years ago and were interbred with Comb ducks that live in South America at that time, according to DNA. They were in Asia way earlier then most people think. Tomarrow when Im rested I will look all that up. But.. ya.. I buggered that.

80 muscovies, that is so neat, I only have 10 but I love this breed so much. so much personality and the colors they come in. Can't get any better.

Is 80 your winter or summer number? I winter about 50-60 that gives me about ( and this is a rounded number on low figures) 1000 ducklings a year, with about 50% or 500 to butcher. If you have 80, and you winter that number, you are hatching no less then around 2500 birds a year. Thats a good figure. Thats a high enough number I have to ask about your color mutations, whats your oddest ones? or are you breeding all one color?
