I have had muscovy for a little while now and I adore them. I know that if you breed them with other mallard derived breeds, the offspring will be sterile. I was thinking of breeding some muscovy with pekin to get a faster maturing hybrid.

I have read/heard/been told (I don't remember which) that you need to raise the breeds together or the muscovy drake will ignore the other breed favoring the muscovy hens. Does anyone know if this is true? I would think that if you removed the muscovy hens from the drake he wouldn't mind the change.
Something just occured to me. Since muscovy hens are broody and pekin hens are not (usually) I suppose it would be better to have a pekin drake with scovy hens.
Anyone have any experience with this? I had a muscovy cross I think with Rouen and he was huge quickly. (he tasted pretty good too).

We have one drake right now, a muscovy. He is in with muscovy's, pekins and a saxony....although they are still young we too want to cross next year for some yummy tasting meat birds :)
