I have the grit for them, they received that last evening. First, should I give them some each evening? I would like to give them a muskmelon to eat ... is that good for 5-week-old babies? Then the pumpkins we have (halloween and all ya know LOL). I would just like to be able to give them more than just the boring feed. Do I just cut the melon in half and let them have it or is there a better way to do this?

I wouldn't give either to chicks that young. The muskmelon would probably give them diarrhea.

If you want to give them a treat scrambled egg is good. Mine always love wet mushy chick feed. Sometimes I'll throw a handful of quick oats into it.

I don't usually give them fruit until they are much older and then just a little.

My older girls do love all kinds of raw squash. Especially the seeds but only when they are full grown.

We have boiled pumpkin and mashed it with chick feed, a little at a time, maybe twice a week. For our 4-5 week olds.
The chicks loved it, while big ‘uns were eating the guts out of half a raw pumpkin.
In moderation , as with everything new that’s introduced to our chicks, from treats to moving to the big girls coop. A little at a time to see how they react to it.
