UPDATE 4/11/13 - Thank you all who love our girls and responded and helped. We found them a home right away that was perfect and they fit right in. And their new "mom" dotes on them just as we had prayed for. We will miss them terribly and it was very hard to go home with no "cluck, clucks" from Lacey to tell us goodnight and watch our chicken parade as they strolled through the RV into their night pen. But we know this is the best for them and we will get to visit soon. Lacey already enlarged the dusting pit and was happily taking a bath when we left....we love you Sweet Beaks!

INITIAL POST: It is with sad regret that we must find a home for our "Sweet Beaks" who have been our babies for two years. We have a unique situation in that we are traveling full time in our RV across the country. Our girls have traveled with us since they were chicks and are very close to us as they are pets more than just egg-laying livestock. While we moved fairly often, the girls always were very adaptable and got along well considering it was not a typical life for a chicken. However, our traveling pattern is going to change such that we feel that it will be too much change and that they should have a more stable home. It is also increasingly difficult to find locations that will accept RVers with chickens (not that it happens everyday!) They tend to object due to them considering them livestock instead of pets.

In any case, the time has come for us to find a home that is experienced in chicken care, will be able to incorporate them into an existing flock properly and will dote on them! Nugget especially requires a lot of attention since she loves to be babied and pet and have long conversations with you. Lacey will enjoy the more quiet lifestyle and Lucy loves to be with the group. You can read more about our girls' personality and see many pictures on our website http://www.theroamingchicken.com (click on "The Flock" link to view their info and see pictures in the "Photo Album" and the Poultry Poses link). It documents our travels and my son was the "scribe" for Lacey and wrote a blog of our travels from the chicken's perspective. He also was the scribe for Nugget who "wrote" a book called Nuggets of Wisdom - advice for hens.

As you will see our girls are very much family to us and that is why it is so important to not just find a home but a new family for them...and be able to visit them on occasion! We didn't take it lightly when we considered taking them on the road and we are always looking to what is best for them and know that it has come to a place that this is the best solution for our girls. Please contact Susan at 760-718-8382 or email [email protected]. We are in the Southern California area for about 2 weeks (starting April 12, 2013) and we are looking for someone in this area as we would be able to return and visit them every once in a while.

So sorry you have to let your girls go. I know it was a difficult decision. I am in North Carolina so I am not close enough or I would gladly take them and you could visit anytime! I hope you find the perfect home for them.

I belong to a yahoo SoCalPoultry group with many members raising all kinds of birds in Southern California. I just copied and pasted your post to that yahoo group, so hopefully a good family in the So Cal area can take them in. Good luck. I would take them, but I already have a few hens and a dozen fertile eggs going in the incubator tomorrow.

So sorry to hear that you have to give up your chickens :( I am looking for a few items to add to my small flock of two... we have a beautiful, big coop and run, plus they free range in the yard everyday, and I work at home so they keep me company. I would love to adopt your chickens. However I'm in Burbank - is that too far for you? Please let me know... your pictures melted my heart!
