Sarah observed Wildfire, head upright. She flicked her tail absentmindedly.

Flame nosed it then flung her head,trying to hit Dusty.

Caleb's brain flashed a warning. 'Stallion behind. Big hurt if you don't move.' He backed as fast as he could into Wildfire.

When the water hit his nose, he perked his ears and drank some more.

Sarah observed Wildfire, head upright. She flicked her tail absentmindedly.

Wildfire grumbled inwardly. He couldn't see any progress in getting Sarah's full attention, and he had four other mares to tend to. The Morgan stud couldn't waste much more time on an unreceptive mare.

Last time. He told himself as he came closer to Sarah. He pranced a few feet in front of her, then around her and whinnied expectantly for permission.

Jake saw the tawny blur come closer. Things of his past flashed before his eyes. He screamed and charged the blur. He couldn't let it happen again! The cougar pounced on Jake,trying to puncure the fatal vien. He stopped and banged his body aganst a rock. he rolled. That got it off! He reared and landed on the screaming cat. He pawed and pounded,as if killing the thing might blot out what had happened a long while ago. He finally broke it's spine and killed it,but he wasn't finished. He took it in his teeth and flung it up and down. He finally dropped it twenty feet from the mares. He breathed hard. He felt a sharp pang on his back.The cougar had scratched him. Not very deep,but it would hurt for a while. He snorted. The air was full of lion scent. he went in sevral places and urinated,marking his territory and filling the air with his own musky scent. he relaxed and shook himself. The flinched,his back hurt and he could not lick it.

Caleb smiled. "I understand. I won't hold it against her." he looked back at Wildfire. "How pitiful..." he said to himself. He looked back at his mares and nickered.

Billy looked up at Bella.

Flame giggled at Dusty.

"Well, it's your own fault if she never forgives you," Typhoon said. "You should've fought that skinny stud off THEN focused on us."

Beauty screamed as the cougar attacked him. She ran over with Jupiter at her feet and started to lick his wounds.

Tempest squealed when the dead cougar landed at her and Beauty's hooves. The strawberry roan dropped her head and kicked it away impulsively. Turning, she whinnied frantically for Jake, as he'd left to remark his territory.

"Well, it's your own fault if she never forgives you," Typhoon said. "You should've fought that skinny stud off THEN focused on us."

Jake shook himself again,even though it hurt. There was still lion scent in the air. he hated it. Jake snorted,getting the yucky scent out of his lungs. He went over to the cougar and pawed it tomake sure it was dead. He stood over it and layed back his ears,as if to dishonor the body. Then he marked it also,bathing it in his own scent. He breathed,that was bettter.


Caleb sighrf. "I know,it was my fualt,but he would have doneit anyway. I said I was sorry,I just want everyone to forgive me. I will NEVER do thatt again."
