I bought two "Americana" chickens from Tractor Supply. Something was wrong with them. As chicks they looked and acted pretty normal, but when they got a little older they started having problems. I noticed one started limping for no apparent reason. I examined it's feet, leg bones, etc pretty thoroughly and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Eventually I had to euthanize it. I have been keeping an eye on the other one from the pair and the other day I noticed it was limping a little now also. But when I looked at it's feet I was blown away. It has like 6 toes on each foot. It has the normal 3 toes in the front, then a normal rear toe, then 2 extra toes coming kind out of the back/side of each leg. I'm sure it's not a spur. It has the skin and texture of toes and even has toenails. I think I got a batch of mutant chickens. Has anybody else had problems with this breed? I don't know how to post a picture but will if anybody is interested.
