For some reason today my male mute keeps chasing off the female. When I cam home from work I noticed her sitting in the woods. I wasn't sure what what she was doing so when my husband came home he went to see if she had a nest (They are only 2) and she didn't. So he picked her up and carried her back down to the water and the male came over and chased her off. Any suggestions on why all of a sudden they aren't getting along?

One suggestion is to make sure they are in fact a pair we bought a pair of trumpenter swans several years back and the first year they were fine the second year they started to fight and after checking them they were both males. Hopefully this is not the case but just thought I would suddest it, I have learned it always pays to check anyone sexing swans can make a mistake.

Yeah they are both DNA sexed the male by me and the female by a good breeder. Last summer they were mating and early this year I saw them a few times so the sexes are correct. He just flipped on her.

I just wanted to post an update on this. The day the male attacked the female we moved her to the wild duck pen for the night and the better part of the next day. The next day we caught the male, put him in the basement and let the female go back on the pond. Two days later, which would be Sunday, we put him back out and they have been fine ever since, lets just hope it stays that way.

Maybe she said something about his momma...............
