My 10,000 Post!

My son is 18 now, he is in the Army Reserves getting ready to go to Ft. Leonard Wood, he graduated HS this year, but did his Basic training last summer. He has big feet too lol, but very narrow. Yes the Nuggetron was injured in a wind storm and didn't pull through,, I really miss him. By the time he passed he was closer to 36 inches and weighed over 20 pounds. HUGE feet,, Tanker is heavier than him and I worry about his legs, Cobalt is about 29 inches tall now, has daddy's drumsticks and body type but not as heavy and masculine as the Nugget was. Coby though LOVES the ladies and is not faithful to anyone like Nugget was to Woo.

What the heck are you feeding these guys!? Did you ever find out what breed Nugget was? I read a lot of different guesses on that post.

Not to bring up sad memories, but I'm curious, did Woo or any of the others show signs of mourning or confusion that Nugget suddenly wasn't there anymore? Chickens just seem so intelligent to me, I'm thinking that they had to have known.

No, never did figure out his breed. They eat scratch, free range, and enjoy a lot of kitchen left-overs during the school year. Tomorrow they will be dining on left-over ham and cheese sandwiches,, today they had apples, salad, and jicama.
Nugget's bf Tux and his GF Woo mourned him for quite a long time. Tux was handicapped, he had a broken neck and his head was on almost backwards. Woo and Nugget hatched together and I thought Woo was the roo and Nugget the hen but turned out the opposite which was bad because Woo is a tiny little barred Turken that Nugget could never mate with. He was very faithful to her until right before he died, he finally found a hen or two big enough to deal with him for a quick mating. He accidently killed one hen by standing on her and I found him with her body, he guarded it until I took it. He was a very special roo,, little kids loved to visit the roo that was as tall as them and get their pictures taken, they liked to feed him, pat him,, he was a gentle giant. Tanker is very gentle but so ungainly, and I've never once seen him try and mate, I don't have a hen near big enough for him. Coby is very active with the ladies and they just love him. I have a baby we hatched in class I'm pretty sure is his because of the coloring, it doesn't match Blue Roo but has reddish flecks like Coby does.
The group he slept with missed him for a long time and they would sleep around the milk crate he slept in so I finally moved it to get them to move on. They stay in their group though, just like they did when he was with them.

God, that story is heartbreaking. I created a post last night about crying easily, but this is too much. So sad and sweet. The kids getting pics with him, gentle giant, the others sleeping around the milk crate. I'm a mess, I need to compose myself. That must have been very traumatic, at least it would be for me, I get very attached. But then, like one nasty person on my "crying about nothing" thread wrote: I need to see a shrink, so maybe it's just me. Thank you for sharing. Sad but sweet story. Do you have any pics of little kids next to him? I would love to see the size comparison.

Thank I love you too,,, and Debi ,,,
