My 11 week old pullet is gone...thank you everyone.

Yeah, don't do the zip lock bag, it would probably suffocate her. I personally prefer a cervical dislocation or anything that severs the central nervous system. I've gassed mice in mass, but to me, it is more of a convenience when you have 30 mice. It looks more painful to them than to just break their necks, which is my preferred way. Just don't hesitate and set yourself to do it and get it done. It will be a fraction of a second and that is it. No gasping for air and no hypothermia, just twitching from the loss of signal to the muscles from the brain.

I've never froze something to death, but it is your choice. It would be easier for you, but she will still go though all stages of hypothermia and physiological panic before passing.

My God....please do whats best for her! I've had to do it before and cried so much that I threw up. Wrap her in a thin towel and put her on a solid surface and hit her on the head with a hammer. God help me. That's the only way I could do it.

I am sorry. I am so terrified of screwing it up. I have never had to do this before. I keep imagining the worst case of where she magically rallys even though she hasn't moved in more than 24 hours.

It may hurt, but it is for the best of the chick. Practice the hammer hit with a stick first if you must. Just don't hesitate. It will be the best for the bird if she is suffering.

You won't screw it up and you do it the way you feel comfortable. She is not going to magically come back. She is (from your description) rotting from the inside out. I'm so sorry but this is the way it is. Animals become sick and we have to take care of them. Part of caring for them is culling when we have to. She needs to be out of her misery. Do you have a neighbor that can help?

Wait until your hubbie gets home.
If she passes by then then that's okay to.
Just keep her comfortable until then.
Don't put yourself through this. It's already been very hard on you.
Let your hubbie do what needs to be done.
Good Luck and Take Care.
