Yesterday after church we found our 12 week blue lace red wyandotte scalped by our older birds. We had her partitioned off in the coup in a place that only she could get in and out of. We're guessing she got out fine just didn't get back in in time to avoid getting her flesh ripped off. We called a NP orthopeadic friend and she gave us a suture kit and we were able to pull the skin from her neck and sew it back on to the her head. I'm wondering if we did the right thing. We didn't do the best sewing job, but it's the best we could do given the circumstances. It's terribly difficult holding a bird still while stitching them up. We are NEW to chickens and hope we did what was right. We just couldn't see leaving the scalp and tendons exposed. What should we do now?! She is being kept in a dog kennel so we can keep an eye on her. She's seems to be doing fine and survived the night! She has a great appetite. We've given her some Terra Vet 10 in her water and rotate that and probiotics. What else can we do to ease her pain? Would the Blue Kote spray be okay to spray on the stitch line? does anyone think she will ever look normal again?

I case anyone would like to see the update. we are on day 4 and she is healing up great. we are keeping it clean and putting on antibiotic ointment. she is getting probiotics in the morning, electrolyte, and antibiotic at night. we will stop putting on the ointment tonight and sunday we will pull the sutures. next time if we have this problem will use the absorbable sutures. hopefully, we won't.

3 week update and she is looking alot better

Bless her heart!!!! My Americauna 12 week old hen Freedom was attacked like this too! The big RIR hens tore every feather off the back if her head and neck. It was a bloody mess but we put Neosporin on it and moved her to the juvenile pen for time to heal. Here's how she looks now and it's been about 3 days.

As far as whether you did the right thing well you did the best you could to help her. She looks like she's doing well!
