I bought 2 white turkeys last year in march... they are the white turkeys. Here are my two females.

Female 2, I placed some fake eggs in the house so that she will know where to start laying them... Thats the plan, hope it works.

I did not have a male so I borrowed one a few weeks ago, He is a Royal Palm... I'd say about 5 weeks ago, Here is the Tom

Any hoo... after much time, I finnaly gave up on them ever having eggs... I know that they dont reporoduce nomrally, the females dont like the male, and the females prefer to breed with each other... I dont know what there thinking.

So I walked to my door and noticed what looked like a broken egg on the floor without the shell... Im like... UGH!!! Dog got to the chickens nest!!!, but then I noticed it was way to much egg for a chicken, and then I looked around and saw an egg about 12 feet away... It was a turkey egg... So I know my turkeys are getting ready to lay eggs. the 1st egg was an egg with no shell...

1st egg from one of my females,

2nd egg from the other female. See how the egg is soft, it never got hard...

By the way... the plan is... if she broods, then ill get her some hatching eggs online and switch them out with hers...

Are they getting calcium in their feed? That might explain the soft shell and lack of shell. They need calcium to make the eggshell.
What breed are your white turkeys? Are they Broad-Breasted Whites? Or heritage turkeys?

My turkeys are unknow... the female were bought at a local feed store... and i think they are WAY to big to breed... They get calcium in there food.... there food has calium already in it and I add a hand full of oyster shell once a day. so i dont know why there eggs are soft..

They each just laid an egg today and they are both soft and leathery. one egg looks like an egg and the other looks like a circle.

Hmmm.... well that's odd. If you're positive they're getting proper nutrition, than maybe these are just oddball eggs. It is a bit worrisome if it keeps happening because it means something is not functioning right with the egg-laying. Just wait a bit I guess.

I wouldn't worry about it just yet...sounds just like these are eggs in the making.........they'll get it right. Same goes for chickens when they first start laying............

Well, the 2nd set was still soft... the funny thing is I found an egg that looks like a turkey egg outside of the pen which leads me to belive that my burbon red is laying eggs now... the eggs are a soft brown color with lots and lots of spots. the egg has a great shell and looks perfect... so I know there eatting properly cause all the birds eat the same food.

It took our Clara a few months longer than the chickens to start laying but her eggs are HUGE!
Her latest egg is the giant on the right end!

Thanks for the nice egg pics of Clara. A question -- do you eat the turkey eggs? Despite having turkeys, I've never eaten one! How are they different from chicken eggs? (Taste, texture, etc?)
