is your flooring gonna be wire? my hens hated the wire flooring. I think that I mighta had something under the hutch one nite and it scared them. I put unfolded pizza boxes down on the wire for a test run. Apparently, we eat too much pizza.
All wire so it's easy to clean and if I need it for rabbits, it'll be ready to go.
They were on solid flooring, but it was just too unsanitary. They were a little off by it the first day, but today they are fine. Added the 6 from the house today and the biggest didn't believe there was a floor, lol. He hopped from perch to food dish to wood board. They will be fine tomorrow. No dogs or cats or other animals that will wander under and go for them. Wild animals would have to jump 2 fences and they have kept their distance cus of my dober. Other chickens wander under and they watch them curiously.
Already put to tarp back over for the night when I took the pic. I'll get an uncovered one tomorrow.
if something can reach up thru the wire with little fingers (like a racoon) they'll pull off whatever they can get...toes feathers etc. Maybe with a roost in there they couldn't. I'm no pro, just saying. I was thinking about putting a couple sections of linoleum leftovers in mine....
If I notice something has been messing with them, I'll add more re-enforcement and be more wary. But for now, this is a huge upgrade for these guys, for the coop and for future chicks/any sick/injured birds.
