I have a crested duck that is only about 6 months old. When she was a duckling, one day she couldn’t walk and just kept falling down or leaning every time. I read online that a niacin deficiency could cause this so I gave her a capsules containing some and she got better. I thought she was better and she hadn’t done it since March. Then today she couldn’t get back up after my dad picked her up and she freaked out. Finally I got her calm and she started to walk more normal and swim some, only stumbling a few times. Is this a niacin deficiency again or a disease that I am not searching for.

What are you feeding them??? It’s possible it’s still a deficiency if the feed doesn’t have enough niacin in it and/or isn’t made for ducks but it could be a disease too. I would think that if it was just a deficiency she would have had the symptoms this whole time instead of just off and on like this but I’m not sure.

@Miss Lydia might know more! There are other duck people that might be able to help too but I am blanking on names right now. But hopefully Miss Lydia will be able to help. :)

when she first got it I gave her niacin for a few days and she got better. She was super pale and stumbling the first time but it happens when she gets super upset. Once she calms down she can stand without going to the floor. Like yesterday she was perfectly fine swimming and walking but then once my father got in the pen she lost it and couldn’t get back up without leaning or falling.I got her from cal ranch and this store doesn’t give them- or only gives them like a day- the powder vitamins like tractor supply where I got the other two who are fine. She is a created duck and the size of a bantam silkie

crested ducks can have neurological issues and this maybe what your seeing.

also a few days of niacin isn't going to help a niacin deficiency please go and get liquid B Complex from TSC Durvet is the brand name https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/niacin-deficiency-in-waterfowl.1367557/
How do you know the difference between a seizure and something else. What does a duck seizure even look like?

If it's a nutritional deficiency, giving vitamins for a few days isn't going to correct the issue. Niacin is essential for ducks. You can use Vitamin B Complex for right now. Once they're older, they can eat brewer's yeast as a source of vitamins.

Well here is one Example.
She doesn’t do that. The first time she started stumbling, she got a pale beak, pale legs ,and just couldn’t stand or just leaned to the side of the cage. A day after giving her the niacin she got better. Her color had returned and she was alert. She is walking and swimming today. She always stands with her feet slightly over each other. I thought we were over that but I guess we aren’t. If it is Neurological, it won’t kill her right? She can live a long life with it with gentle care and just have episodes?
