We have a chicken tractor so the back part is covered with tarp blocking wind. It makes it easy to move them around. Once they have feathers they will stay pretty warm especially if they can cuddle with each other.
When it got really cold we put down wood chips.

Yours are such cuties! I have full grown barred rocks, they are great! I’ve never had Rhode Island’s before though.

Ha. I just made that today! They took right to it. It’s what I want when they’re outside but I thought I might as well test it in the brooder.
I think it’s great! We did this for our chicken feed, for our full grown chickens
Love that! Was going to something similar with a 5 gallon bucket but this looks better and I wouldn’t have to store the rest of the bag!!
