You realize that she can participate in showmanship, but there are no "show quality" seramas, because you can't technically show them yet. I would go with a bird that is in the APA/ABA standard, so that she can show, and possibly win awards. I lead my poultry group, and I breed Seramas. Many of my kids wanted my culls to show, but when I reminded them that they can't really "show" them, or win any ribbons, they decided with other breeds that they could actually show with.

You can show them; in fact, if they are ever to become recognised, they must be shown.

What you can't do is progress past BB.

I see. I will tell her this and see if she is still interested in them. To be honest I was hoping she would go with something I'm already into raising. (Silkies and Polish) I ordered some birds here the other day from an old hatchery I use to get birds from a long time ago. They have a great group of birds they work with and from time to time people end up getting sho quality birds out of them. I know I did when I use to get my chickens from them in the past from time to time.

I ordered 10 Sultans and 10 Silver Laced Polish from them. Chicks of course. Maybe this way she can grow fond to a bird from it's earliest age in life and learn more by raising it from a chick. I know that would be more rewarding to me then buying a chicken already grown and know that its show quality. That's basicly like just buying the award won. Put some effort into it and time and its more rewarding in my opinion. Wouldn't you agree?

No, they must be entered and exhibited, not just brought. They would compete against other serama if any are entered.​

They can win awards. Sometimes at certain shows, the SCNA will have a "mini show" where the seramas are table judged and given awards.

I do not recommend Japanese for showmanship. That I learned from experience, I had 2 as my first showmanship birds, and they wouldn't walk...

I'm sorry that having a difference of opinion is a matter of "I won't talk about it any more."

In an earlier post I had suggested having an additional breed of birds, as well as the serama, so that they could progress farther. But I was also trying to not run ramrod over a child's stated preference. Giving your child oportunities means letting them have the control of the project, and making the decisions. They do need to know the repercussions of their decisions, whatever they may be; but they need accurate information.

Well everyone's opinion is important and very valuble. I thank everyone here for answering any questions I have had and letting me know things I didnt know to ask about.

I think my daughter is still developing her taste in birds like I did as I was growing up. She still has tons to learn as do I . But atlease we have forums and people to talk to like we do today. As when I was growing up I was pretty much blind to all the possibilites.
