Chirping
So after a family of foxes got my flock of golden comets and we moved I swore no chickens (well mostly my wife). And then my wife decides chickens. So I picked up 4 different breeds from TSC to have some variety in eggs, slightly less egg production than golden comets (even I got tired of eggs), and to have a project (chicken house with some improvements from my last one and use the unused kennel run area).
A few of these are easy for breed/gender. I've labeled the pictures and put my guesses below for each and can get more pictures-they are a bit antsy right now and want to spread their wings and get in the run again. Hopefully they will have their house this weekend weather permitting.
I bought 2 each "labelled' as Longhorn, Cinnamon Queen, Silver Laced Wyandotte, and Rhode Island Red (wanted some easter eggers but hey chicken math can come in later along with ducks (raised separately but common run)).
From the pictures (and I apologize-I'll work on calming the girls with some tomatoes/fruit tonight as I may have a couple mismatched):
1-Golden Laced Wyandotte-pullet or cockerel I'm not sure.
2-Australorp or Black Orphington-pullet
3-Longhorn Pullet
4-Longhorn Pullet
5-Cinnamon Queen Pullet
6-Rhode Island Red Pullet
7-Cinammon Queen Pullet
8-Rhode Island Red cockerel
Hopefully I just have one cockerel but if not there are local chicken swaps and we want to do some ducks as well. I'm also going to be getting some mature speckled sussexxs-2 hens and a rooster. I'm debating which rooster would be best to handle the flock. I'm on the city limits literally and have 2 acres-other neighbors have roosters and no one minds but the city is more of a complaint based-hence why my house/runs are being worked on for predator protection (hawks, raccoons, fox, loose dogs).
Thanks in advance and thanks for all of the great articles/discussions-always learning something. Time to wrap up a meeting and go cut myself on metal roofing for the house.
