After really bad experience of my first baby quail that died from drowning in this thread.

another 9 eggs all hatched safely.
I seriously didn't expect them all to hatch...

I give them a temporary name as No.2 - No.10 for now. ( No.1 was the one that died )
I have been treating them equally by holding them, being in their sight all the time and giving hand feed.
they're all pretty tame as they're not scared of me but not all of them are really attached to me.
but No.2 and No.3 are the ones those like to be held and patted but other prefer snuggling on a dust cleaner instead.
I'm considering about keeping No.3 because it's really unique quail.
This guy actually looks at me when I call it and if I put my hand in the cage it will be only one that will run on my hand and sit in so comfortable.
but one thing that I'm worried is.. if this one was a male...
Hopefully not..

now it's 3 weeks old today and it's still hard to see if it's male or female.

The thing is I gotta pick only 1 of 9 quails with me to be my hen's companion.. I really don't wanna keep any more roo because my roo that's its father is really an aggressive crazy bird... I don't have space for another cage.
8 of quails will be sold in pet shop (I already deal with the merchant). I don't want any of them end up to be food because I did a lot of effort to make them're really used to human.

I have some of their videos and pictures when they hatched and some activities.

but first.. meet their parents..

I was lucky that I record this when No.2 was pushing itself out of the shell.

I'm really happy on the result.
after the first one died I put more extra fertile eggs in the incubator because I expected just some of them to hatch but all of them hatched safely.

Congrats they look like fine quails. Since you have just two quails and they are both brown? are all the babies brown or did some end up as different colors also. Im curious about quail genetics or they can get coloring from grandparents or they just all ended up Brown.

I hatched out 23 of 39 fertile eggs last time. And 13 of them died, mainly getting wet cause of a bad waterer, some spradle legs quite weak one developed a cancerous boil and died. 10 survived to adulthood, i still have those 10 + 4 originals (some of the 10 were from eggs via the mail and i estimate at most 2 from the 4 originals). I am now hatching out 56 eggs, i expect to get 20-30 new quail at this point.

Yes they're all Japanese quails.
So they'll only have brown color like that.

And wish you luck for those eggs you're incubating!

Actually funny thing I got a strange color from brown LOL imagine my shock he’s inverted almost! And now in my brooder as I watch the color come in on my 2 week olds I think I have another!

So weird things can happen even with brown... it’s not often it doesn’t seem but you can get a weird color pop out but rarely.

Two of mine have a darker head, no defined stripes and inverted color pattern on the bellies, sides, and some on the back. Quite weird.

Cute little guys :) congrats

That sounds pretty cool.
it would be nice to see different color and pattern on my quails.

I posted a thread here I think last week asking for opinions on the color lol I think I have another in here now too! I thought so weird where did this gene come from LOL
