My Agriculture Class and Our Emu Journey!

Drumstick, usually they are too dark to candle with any conventional flashlight that I know of! What people seem to tend to do with emu eggs is track the percent water loss over time to see if they are on track with development.

Is your class planning to do that? It would be an awesome project for you!

That's what I've been reading on another emu thread:

Are emu eggs too dark(thick) to candle?

Drumstick, they are typically to thick, however as Chickerdoodle said, we are tracking weight loss ^^

(Will have to ask my teacher what day next week we are weighing. )

I tried in vain to find old videos and info. The Sheriff ( on Stella's Social club) had emu's that hatched from and all the data about egg weight loss at certain times to monitor the growth etc. The video's were lots of fun to watch the babies - Sheriff had 4 that hatched, and gifted two eggs to a friend. All hatched and I believe they were evenly divided 3 M & F pairs The instructions she followed were very explicit. But, Stella's club just had too many posts for me to go back through them all to find the info. & videos. I do recall she also posted on an emu thread or two. Maybe 4 years or more ago. Hers were Louis & Loca and just can't recall the other pair.

46 days and counting!!

This weekend we added another beautiful emu egg to the incubator!!

YAY TWO BABIES!

I cannot WAIT for these guys to hatch!

We have been turning them pretty often, (About 10 times a day gosh darn-it)

We are thinking of some names now, and also building a brooder!

Im thinkinggggg.....

SALLY

okayokaokay lots of explaining to do now.

Me: Why did Sally fall off of the swing?

You: Why?

Me: She had no arms.

You:....but....huh?...

Me: Knock Knock

You:...Whos there?..

Me: NOT SALLY!

*Maniacal kackling*

lol and emus don't have arms.

unless it turns out to be a male

If there can be a boy named Sue, there can be an emu named Sally
