much bigger than in any of the candling pictures i have seen. since this is my first time i am getting very worried. Im on day 16 and in the remaining four eggs the air sacs are 30-45% of the egg. is this bad? One of them looks like theres some liquid sloshing around in there, but the other three seem to be dry inside (?) also, they are not moving around anymore, they were moving around on day 14. is this normal?

ugh, i hate this!!

the temps have not been bad, theyve bounced back and forth between 99.5 and 100.5. The humidity has been all over the place. Its been as low as 25 and as high as sixty. Ive dont the best i could to keep it regulated, but ive had little luck. its at 45 right now.

so is it a bad sign? theyve got two days to lockdown.

It sounds like it might be a bit bigger than normal, possibly due to higher humidity levels, although if your temperature is up too, then they may just be developing a tad fast. Thought this picture might be useful

thanks for the diagram, they are slightly bigger than day 18 but they go into lockdown tomorrow. i am going to try my hardest not to worry about it

One thing i've learned o nthis site is that everybody's hatch is different. Different climates, altitudes.......so I think you are right not to worry. IMHO this whole hatching thing is a little more forgiving than it's sometimes made out to be.
Good luck!

If your air sacs are larger than expected, it is due to your humidity levels being too LOW and the egg "drying out" more than normal... thus creating a larger air sac inside the egg.

Sounds like your *average* RH% was on the low side. It probably spiked up when you added water, but then dropped down over time or when the lid was opened. Your temps sound good.

I would make sure you get your humidity higher during lockdown. More water trays, sponges, or wet washcloths (good if you can squirt additional water in thru a vent hole too). I'd shoot for at least 65%. You don't need your eggs drying out any more and don't want shrink-wrapped hatching chicks.

Good luck!

Thank you, will do.

I managed to get their hatch date on a holiday weekend so I can moniter this very closely..

When I go into lockdown, I make sure all three channels are full of water PLUS I add a sour cream container filled with water and a clothe (clothe sticks out of the water to help evaporation) and a washclothe that sits on the hardware clothe cover - place this under a hole in the lid, so you can add water daily to the washclothe.

Did you calibrate the hygrometer?
