This is my newest coop at the farm. I say almost free because we did not have to buy any
'new" materials for this project. Everthing was leftovers of recycled or repurposed materials. Since i did not take construction pics, here is the sort of step by step.

* we started with 4 X 10 pallets. we took all the slats off several then put them back on closely together to make a soild wall. we cut some slats in half to make the end pieces. they became solid 4X5 end walls. we used scrap wood to raise it a couple of feet off the ground and screwed the three sides together.

*we went to the woods and cut 3 young crowded trees down to make our 10 ft roosting poles. staggared and attached those. (we have about 35-40 girls who fit with plenty of room to spare.

*We wanted the nest boxes and feed and water to be in her as well so we made another "room". i think we came out about 6 foot and dropped some more posts. this si backed up to a existing fence line so we attached the nest boxes to the landscape timbers that were sunk. we framed some old tin for a door on the end so i can check eggs and do feed and water.

*we wrapped all the open areas in wire and cut out a little chicken door. i thought painting it red would help them find it easier.

* Old tin for the roosting area, 2 in chicken wire over top of other room. totally closed in!!!

This is only a sleeping coop. my girls free range all day then come in. Anyway, i love it!!! i know i left out steps...sorry. i'd be happy to answer any questions....

Prissyfarmer how did you make your feeder and waterers? If you can just tell the steps it will be enough thanks.

for feed i use an old gravity feeder i used to use for my dgs. i just propped to door open. i keep feed in there but right now they are foraging in the woods all day. i am working on a new water system that i used for my rabbits in here now. I use a 55 gallon plastic barrel elevated so it is gravity fed i put a valve on it so i can clean out the pail without losing alot of water. so i guess it works on a pressure sort of system. i will take some pics maybe tomorrow and post. it is hard to explain....haha...

*CityChook... the fact i had everything means i need to do some major cleaning out here!!! I hate to throw something away and need it later!!!
