Found my 1 year old Australorp hen dead today under my house. She had been dead at least 4 hours or so. When evening came realized had not seen her since this morning. She was perfectly fine yesterday and this morning. Her eyes were bright, nice red comb and wattles. She was always a good weight too. No injuries wre found on the body. She has always been wormed every 2 months with vermectin. She was fed Purina Layena and Calf-Manna pellets. Free ranged during the day. No poisons in the area. The only problem with her was she was never in the next boxes. She would lay soft shell eggs alot. And she would lay in the middle of the yard, like she did not know the egg was coming. Can being egg bound cause sudden death like that? Or did she have a heart attack? From the way her body was found, she just fell on her front and died. always keep my coop clean and pest free. All my hens are mite free. use Red Lake Earth for the pests. also clean the coop once a week and their waterers every 4 days or so. She had the best care she could get. Don't understand what happened. Dropping dead common? Please leave comments on what you think it was.
