I used bottom off old gravity feeder. It all ready had threaded rod running through the center. I drilled a hole in tge bottom of bucket. Then put 1/4 wing nut on the rod. After a few days wing nut backed out and feeder came apart. But I put a lock nut on top and no problem since.

How does the food drop down? How is the amount of food regulated, what keeps the feed from just pouring out constantly? [VIDEO]Thanks

The rod partially blocks the hole in the bucket where the feed drops. It drops into the catcher below. While they eat it moves the catcher that moves the rod which drops a lil more feed. Almost no waste.

So, the trick is to figure out what size to drill the hole in the bucket, for the size of the feed (e.g. pellets or crumble)? And, so, the wing nut doesnt block the feed from dropping down or u dont want the hole too big so the wing nut falls thru the hole? Right

That's right a 3/4 spade bit worked great.
