About a week ago, I was wondering when the sweet little chirps of my two 9-week-old Ameraucanas were going to start sounding more clucky and less chirpy. Don't get me wrong -- I love the chirps, but was curious when their big-girl voices would come in.
Sure enough, that afternoon when I was cleaning their coop I startled one of them by picking her up and moving her out of my way, and while the other chirped frantically, the girl I moved let out a mid-level, first timer cluck! It was like "chirp-chirp-CLACK!" Not quite cluck, but not quite chirp.
In the days to come she's started clacking -- and clucking -- more regularly.
It's sweet.
