My Babies Are In The Mail!

I'm just SO nervous for them? How are they? WHERE are they?! They left Ohio yesterday and aren't showing to deliver to my house (Washington State) until 3pm tomorrow. I just keep thinking of someone dropping the box, or worse yet shaking it while making an evil laugh...or them getting cold, or, or!!! Obviously I've never gotten chicks in the mail before. We have 10 coming. The wait is killing me!!

How sweet! They will be fine. I am on pins and needles every time. Meyer? They are packed so nicely in chicken sending type boxes with snacks. No worries about postal workers or cold. 10 keep each other warm and they won't ship if it's too cold. The postal workers have special handling protocol for your babies. My PO even called me after hours one time and let me pick up at the back gate at 8pm. Breathe. They'll be there soon.
After a long trip, no shavings. Food and H20 only. Dip their beaks in the H20. Put green marbles in the waterer. Watch closely for pasty butt, keep their butts clean.

Congrats! Don't forget to open the box when the postman is there so make sure all of them are alive. It's unusual one to be dead, but you always want to check.

1 Buckeye
2 RIR
1 Australorp
2 Silverlace Wyandotte
1 Goldenlace Wyandotte
3 Andalusian (This was an impulse buy and I'm really hoping I didn't mess up by getting this breed. I read more about it AFTER the purchase.)
Names chosen are:
Chickaletta, EyeEye, Repecka, Nugget, Rose, Duck, Polly. And for the Andelusians: Andy, Lucy and Ian...whether they are girls or not cause I can never remember the name of the breed! LOL

I know you are excited! I can just see it in your post! We got our first chicks last year from MPC. They were delayed at the Post Office in Casper, Wyoming overnight - due to arrive on Wednesday and didn't get them until early Thursday morning. Oh, and it had been in the teens and twenties BELOW zero the week before and the morning we picked them up it was 19 below zero. They are tough little stinkers, those baby chicks!

I ordered 20. All made it but a couple, and since some chicks fail to thrive no matter what their surroundings and care I opted to just notify MPC, accept it, and take care of the Littles I had. They are still going great - some I gave to a neighbor who lost her flock and the roos are, well, they are no longer with us, but all in all it turned out well.
