My Baby Chick has a Lame Leg :’(

Hello Everyone First time trying this so I hope I make sense. Recently my neighbors gave me a baby chick of theirs to try and raise back to health. The chick is 1 month old and has a lame leg. It sticks straight out from its body and can not stand on its own. It also has this strange scab ring around his foot. I asked if he had rubber and on his legs and they said no. I’m hoping it not Mareks Disease. Any tips on how to cure this little chick? please help!!!!

SOMETHING was wrapped around that leg. Was the chick banded and it was never removed?
I would post pictures to the ER forum for suggestions.

hello! No I just barely put some Vaseline and then the band there. I didn’t want and bugs around it’s leg. I don’t usually put bands on my chicks so I won’t be keeping this on there. ok thanks! Yeah I’m so new to this app it’s kinda hard for me to find things! Thanks for the help!

Welcome to BYC - sorry for the circumstances. Have you checked closely to make sure that there is not something cutting off circulation to the chick's foot ? It is possible that the foot got caught somewhere, and the chick dislocated its hip. Whatever the cause, it is going to be an extremely difficult situation to rectify. Good luck.

Oops lol sorry I read it wrong! From the looks of his leg I would agree that it looks like something was on its leg. I asked the owners and they said that there was no bands on their chicks legs.
