I have a flock of twelve and just got 25 more about 2months ago they have all been very well no signs of trouble until i went out yesturday. One chicken was stuck down behind food dish all weird head first i got her out and she walked around and started to eat and drink, but one other chicken was laying down and acting weird so i picked her up and then set her down on her feet to see how she acted she held her head very low staring at the floor she began to rotate her head as if she were watching a bug walk in circles on the floor then she gets up and wipes her face on the floor like there is something on the top of her head that she wants off theen she tucks her head under herself and walks backward around the pen it then noticed another chicken eating and went over and ate so i went to haul some water out after letting other chicks into separate pen. When i came back the chick that had been stuck behind the feeder was up moving around and stretching legs she was eating and seemed fine so i then thought the issues were different. However i went out first thing this morning to see how they were the one who had been stuck under feeder was dead and the one who is delerious is still in the same condition she will not hold her head up at all and is still tucking head way under her body and kinda twitchin backwards. i have no idea what this could be my other chicks are showing no signs of anything they are healthy as far as i can tell but so were the other two please any ideas of what this is would be great. Thank you Ms. Chicky

this is exactly what is happening to my chicks! i bought 4 rhode island reds on april first. they were all healthy and fine. i bought them the same day they hatched. i refuse to give them medicated feed or vaccines, sounds so ridiculous. the lady i bought them from said she didnt vaccinate any chickens in her flock, but chooses to give them medicated food so they can "grow" faster. so i grind their own organic feed like nature intended. they are two weeks old now and are doing GREAT. i bought 4 old english chicks yesterday (they are only 3 days older than mine and weirdly big) and when they came their poop was so foul smelling and i didn't think anything of it because i assume a lot of people use chick starter feed (medicated). and thats what caused it to smell so bad. but today i noticed that their poo is runny and brown and bubbly and it is so foul smelling because it is diarrhea and they all act the way you described. the horrible thing is that i have already introduced them to my chicks. one of my chicks have already developed diarrhea and seems sickly. i know that it is viral now. i contacted the seller to ask him what could it be and he says he as no idea, and that his chicks at home are doing just fine. i hope they get better soon and don't die.

The head rolling/head tucked under, walking backwards is Wry Neck, give him polyvisol three times a day, it's baby vitamins, Also give him Vitamin E and a little bit of selenium to absorb the Vitamin E. The neck tucked under is usually the worst case of it. The rolling of the head is usually the begining part of wry neck. He could die if not treated. Usually but not always, they get wry neck from another chicken pecking at his head causing damage. Silkies are prone for this because there brain is on the outside of there skull and one Peck. BOOM, there goes the twisting of the head. It's almost like they are having a dizzy spell..
