My baby goat has bloat!

The best thing for bloat I have ever found, and I have tried them all, is GasX. You get it at the grocery or drug store. One pill should do it. GasX is something I ALWAYS kept on hand. The remedy people usually suggest for bloat is oil. It works (but not as well as GasX), but if the goat accidentally inhales some it will cause a mechanical pneumonia and the end result is that you cured the bloat but killed the goat. Have your goats been vaccinated for entero? Entero will cause bloat and a change of feed can cause entero.

He is doing much better.:)I am not a veterinarian and I did not talk to one either,I just did some research on the internet and did what I thought was best. Here is some pictures.

The pepto bismol seemed to help him.He is better, and he is back outside with one of my other baby bottle goats,Diamond.

Bloat is often caused by a simple digestive upset, and pepto bismol is very helpful in soothing an upset tummy. Bloat can also be one of the first signs of enterotoxemia. Entero can come on at any time, is deadly, and an affected goat with entero can be dead in very short order. If your kids have not been vaccinated with CD/T, I urge you to do so at once.

With bloat sometimes keeping them in a position with the head and shoulders above the body helps get rid of the gas. Seems to me there are special remedies for it, but it has been a long time. Glad he is doing better!

I have always used baking soda for bloat, mixing some with some water and bottle feeding it, or using a syringe to give it orally. As adults mine have free access to baking soda.

Over feeding can cause bloat. It looks too young for anything but a bottle. What are you feeding it? And how much and often?
