I got four silkies a few weekends ago (varying in age). The youngest has never acted totally ok. At first she was just a little slow. Then she wouldn't open her eye. I found info to use antibiotic ointment and did that. Now she is moving all about acting fine but this morning she has clear bubbles coming from her beak! Please help!

There was a post like this a little while ago that had a chick with bubbles coming out of its mouth. She could possibly be choking! Try pushing gently on her stomach.

I was just reading on another thread that some people rub the chicks back until it chirps, (if yours isn't chirping) or they wipe their mouths to help them breathe.

How old is she? First check her crop.you are looking for either impacted crop(crop is filled with food, tangled together)chicken cannot digest this,or sour crop(crop feels squishy and there is foul smell) What antibiotic ointment did you use and where did you put it? Symptoms could indicate several possibilities.

Oops. Thanks ten chicks! I totally forgot about sour crop! do you think she could feed it chick grit ? Or would that not help? I've only been a chicken owner for 23 days but byc helped me with those problems!

Grit will not help sour crop, but if she is eating anything other than chick feed, she has to have grit.

So I just checked on the Silkie and she is acting totally fine... No drainage from eyes or beak.
