My back has been giving me fits lifting hundreds of pounds of chicken feed from our 1-Ton super bags to our 55 gallon drums --- then bending over again and digging it back out for a second time into 5 gallon buckets. Then hauling it long distances around our farm... Mice have figured out how to get into the 1-Ton super bags and even the 55 gallon barrels, spoiling the feed with droppings. I even have found dead mice in my barrels! It's awfull... we recently found a 1-Ton feed bin on wheels that we can take to the mill and have filled for less than we were paying before. We have been using it for a couple months now and it a life saver on my back and saves lots of time moving the feed around. We just tow it around with our ATV to where we need chicken feed. No more breaking our backs.. We like the 1-Ton so much, we are thinking about getting a 3-Ton on wheels too which will last our flock about 6 months. Does anyone have a list of all the bulk feed mills in the area (larger Phoenix area)? We would like to try a higher protein feed, 20+ percent if we can find it...

Are you not worried about the feed losing nutritional value by sitting for so long?
If feed grain feeds are dried properly (to 12-14%) , they store without loss for long periods. We have a 1,000 acre family farm back in Indiana. We stored grains in our large silos for up to 4 years or more without loss of nutrition if kept dry with good ventilation. To prevent high moisture levels and potential molding, we rotate the inner grain with the outer layer with augers or sometimes run it through a dryer and/or transfer the feed grain to another silo.
